The Kidney Foundation has the world’s first portable artificial kidney developed, reports the AD. The device is the size of a thick iPad and dialysis patients it where they want. Now patients before hours or even spend whole nights in the hospital.
The device is being tested in 2015 patients and should be freely available from 2017. The artificial kidney weighs 3 to 6 pounds and is much lighter than home dialysis devices, at least 40 kilos. Moreover, the artificial kidney much easier to use.
The Kidney Foundation expects the new device ensures that mortality drops below kidney patients. “If you can decide where and when you receive dialysis, you can see the effect of kidney better approach,” says director Tom Oostrom.-
