The ordinary Plane Finder app, without 3D and AR, is actually the most expensive of the series but provides the most useful information. Dutch users give the app a rating of 4.5 star and praise the many features that the creators keep adding. For ordinary users the app offers enough possibilities. You can request additional information from each aircraft, such as the date of registration, model and serial number, first flight and technical drawing.
Plane Finder is useful for people who have family and friends want to follow on holiday to fetch them or people who just curious to traffic. The truly professional spotters can purchase additional maps, such as the U.S. FAA Aviation Organization (€ 12.99 each via in-app purchase). But that did not need you as a regular user.

+ Flight is a flight tracker for air travel, but has more to offer. Hero Flight Pro
A Russian app that translated into Dutch, hence the long and somewhat clumsy name in the App Store. Displays information of 16,255 airports, of which 4200 with detailed information on flight status and weather. This app is especially useful if you want to follow. Operations at a particular airport You can see the selected flight approaching the airport on the map, where you get to many devices at a speed and altitude to see. Also let the app show how recent the information is. You can view the map in normal, satellite or hybrid view. Hero Flight is especially suitable for people who have a specific flight (or a series of flights) to track, not for people who want to see the planes currently circling above Schiphol. You can always request a ticket per flight of the current escape, with a top of the screen indicating how much flight time has already passed. Glympse

- Flightradar24 Pro (€ 2.69, universal, iOS 4.3) – Originally Swedish app, but English. Unique to this app is the Cockpit View: Look to see what the pilots. There is also an AR function.
- FlightTrack (€ 4.49, universal, iOS 5.0 +) – Known app for tracking of air travel, but mainly for the traveler. With such notifications and sync with TripIt in the Pro version.
- Find My Friends (free, universal, iOS 5.0 +) – Apple’s official app for finding friends. Focused on current location, rather than
- FlightTrack Free (free, iPhone, iOS 5.0 +) – Free trial version of FlightTrack (see photo). Less detailed information, but that may be enough for people picking and prying eyes.
Also handy for trip tracking
- Where MI (free, iPhone, iOS 4.0 +) – App for hikers, vagabonds and other people who like to go out and want to share their location with others. Provides only little extras compared Find My Friends.
- TrackMyTour (free, universal, iOS 5.1 +) – A somewhat dated looking app that just works, however. While traveling you create waypoints to where you publish text or photos. Friends can the ‘breadcrumbs’ track and see what you had to say. Requires a bit more effort from the traveler but for the resident informative. Between two waypoints you do not know where someone is.

- My Trip Log Pro (€ 0.89, universal, iOS 4.3 +) – App for capturing trips using waypoints. The app automatically waypoints with a chosen frequency. At any point you can add notes.
