Sony unveils Xperia Z2 and thinnest and lightest tablet ever - NU.nl

That did the Japanese company at a press conference at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Besides a successor to the Z2 and a new middle class smartphone, the M2, Sony also unveiled the anticipated new tablet. The Xperia Tablet Z2 is the world’s thinnest and lightest tablet.


Xperia Z2

Xperia Z 2 is the successor to the Z1 (review) and has a larger 5.2-inch screen, better speakers and a new processor.

design keeps Sony largely the same with the glass panels on the front and back interrupted by an aluminum strip that is made from one piece. The Z2 is just like the other recent Xperia’s dustproof and waterproof. The phone has become 0.3 millimeters thinner and slightly thinner edges around the screen.

The camera features 20.7 megapixels, like the Z1. Sony uses a 1/2.3 CMOS sensor Exmor RS and it is possible to record videos. In an ultra high-resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels)

The Japanese company also promises better sound quality with new speakers. Moreover, Sony uses a new 801 Snapdragon processor from Qualcomm. The quad-core processor is clocked at 2.3 GHz. The phone is available from April for an unknown price.


Xperia M2

Xperia M2 is the cheaper brother of the Z2. Although the price is still unknown, though the specs indicate a clear difference between the high-end and middle Z2 to M2.

M2 features an 8 megapixel camera with slightly poorer sensor. The design is almost the same.

The screen of 4.8 inches has only just over a quarter-HD (qHD) resolution of 960 x 540 pixels. That comes out to 229 pixels per inch, a lot lower than many other phones like the HTC One S4 Mini and Mini.

M2 will feature a Snapdragon processor 400. It is a quad-core 1.2 GHz model. The unit is for sale.

Tablet

Finally Sony Xperia Tablet Z2, showed 6.4 millimeters, the thinnest tablet in the world, with 426 grams according to Sony is also the lightest. The screen stays at 10.1 inches equal and just like the first Tablet S (review) full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels).

Like the Z2-smartphone, the tablet has a new Snapdragon 801 processor for improved performance and Z2 Tablet also has a new charging technology so that the battery should be. 75 percent faster charging

Finally, there are a 8.1 and 2.2-megapixel camera in the new tablet processed. A price and sale date are still unknown.
