Google Maps-app

Five Google knows to undermine its competitive cunning. For example, with a free mobile OS and free online office apps. On iOS Google cuckoo eggs, puts more and more cunning.

Siri-killer Google Now

Android has been the virtual assistant Google Now last year. This addition since version 4.1 (Jelly Bean) of the mobile operating system analyzes your search history, calendar, location information and more. So these smart help on your smartphone and tablet can avoid missing an important appointment, you’re late for the bus and / or train or you miss the scores of your favorite football team. If you walk into a strange town and you have not eaten in your calendar, suggesting Now neighboring restaurants based on your preferences.

short, a proactive counterpart to Apple’s Siri voice assistant that is built into iOS. Now Google has its cunning introduced into the iPhone and iPad platform of its competitor. Not as separate app, but as part of that which Google is known for. Correction: which is considered indispensable. Namely: search. Not for nothing is online information-search-with-an-engine several years ago replaced by the verb “google”. The Google Search app carries Google Now in it. A Siri overtroevend cuckoo.

Mutual linking apps

The central idea of ??the web is linking, originally called hyperlinks. On iOS that works too, but with the programs that Apple has predestined purpose. For web links, the built-in iOS Safari browser the default. For YouTube videos is that originally supplied with basic iOS YouTube app (since iOS6 no longer comes along default). For cards that Apple’s own Maps (and formerly included with iOS, basic Google Maps).

Note: these are the defaults. Not the default options. Because unlike on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and Android is not set on any iOS app what kind of links should open. Not by the end user. Because that Apple has been determined. And hardcoded made: clicking a mailed http link to Google Maps on iOS leads to that location in Apple Maps. Yes, a hard-coded link maps.google.com, Apple’s own kaartenapp on.

Google now avoids this by providing the ability to link its own Chrome app. its Gmail app for iOS Plus the new YouTube app and also the completely revised Google Maps app. For that, the iOS user is first installed Google apps on their iPhone or iPad. But then the circumvention of Apple’s defaults a fact. Perhaps this can also use the Chrome app boost, which was previously not used to open links. From other apps on iOS A cuckoo so pure.

Seamless Google ecosystem

Easily overlooked, but not least, the back button that Google built to be mutually linking apps. A back button, that has any browser right? Yes, but this is one to go to the app where you came from. So that clicking a link in the mail does not lead to the then switched browser, then go back over it again manually activate the mailapp required. Just as the back button touch to go to the previous app like you can go to overall inbox.

back from a folder

Sounds familiar to Android users, and indeed for the Windows Phone user. These two mobile platforms have a higher lying back button built allows the user to back, inside and between apps. So to the previous web page in a browser to the previous mail in a mail program, and to the previous app that the user just used for this purpose. On iOS this can also now: by, with and between Google’s apps. A cuckoo that brings ease of use.

right back to the linking of Chrome app, in this case Google’s new YouTube app:

App developers lure

reciprocal linking with easy back button is now Google’s own iOS apps. But that’s just the beginning. Google provides two functions also for external developers. It does this for a while and now operates stores in the drum. With the new Gmail app as a shining and inspiring example? Programmers can so their apps with the option to open in Chrome.

weblinks directly

Instead of Safari, the app maker is ‘lost’ his audience. Because Apple’s browser opens the link, but the user than for themselves. Going back to the app requires some conscious user operations, which before perhaps distracted by what is happening in the Apple browser.

too fast

Another existing Apple option for the developer is the in-app using the iOS webview function. Thereby the Safari engine used, but is the webrendering on the second plan. Apple gives its own browser namely an advantage by Just-in-time compilation of JavaScript code to allow. The webview is what flawed. Google gives app makers the means to maintain. Eyeballs Without that developers before the webview built-in feature of iOS have to use their product. A cuckoo developers promises some freedom.

Chrome (OS?)

Ostensibly the Chrome app on iOS simply an alternative browser. In retrospect the impact seems limited, because it’s under the hood is built on Safari. Because that should Apple. “Chrome for iOS has some significant technical restrictions imposed upon it from the App Store, such as the requirement to use for rendering, no V8, and a single-process model built UIWebView”, say Google’s developers of the iOS version of Chrome.

It is therefore quite a challenge to critical infrastructure components of the Chromium source code to use, they pursue their post. The lack of the native browser and JavaScript engine does not really think that Chrome is but only a graphic of pie. That is a misconception. Google optimizes its browser still substantial, albeit in other areas. As the network layer, the infrastructure for data synchronization and bookmarks, universal address and search bar (the Omnibox), and more. See for example, Google’s speed-enhancing supplement SPDY HTTP.

addition to these technical advantages the Chrome app the end user access to his or her Google Account, complete with easy synchronization settings, bookmarks, browsing history and more. What Apple also wants his iCloud and function as example Reading List, but with Safari on Windows has become an orphan. The current download for Microsoft’s PC platform is an antique version and the Safari product page there with no mention.

Chrome on iOS is a gateway to the Google world, except for the time being the capabilities of its own app store for web apps. The Chrome Web Store is in fact not accessible from iOS. Although this also applies to Google’s own Android. At that mobile operating system with the Chrome browser to surf the Chrome Web Store delivers the same error message. But web apps are essentially websites and can of course just work on Chrome on top of iOS. And what is Google’s Chrome OS platform actually more than Chrome? The browser is a cuckoo, perhaps the greatest that Google places.
