iPad Apple again loses market share - z24

According to figures from IDC. The market researcher provides estimates for the number of tablets that manufacturers have shipped to stores, not the number of phones that consumers have actually bought.

Apple shipped 19.5 million iPads and iPad Minis. Thus the tech company from Cupertino had a market share of 39.8 percent. It is the first time that the iPad takes up less than 40 percent of tablet sales accounted for.

Apple sees rising competition from Samsung and a multitude of smaller manufacturers. Where last year the top five products were still 70 percent of the tablets, is now dropped to 55 percent. Especially in China, many small players active.

To defend market share last year Apple introduced the cheaper, smaller iPad Mini. Of these, the company is estimated at least 10 million sold in the first quarter. That is not enough to offset the decline in market share a halt.

Consumers increasingly opt for cheaper, smaller tablets, which often run on Google’s Android. That system was already by far the largest on smartphones, and is now on tablets.

total tablet market is still growing. In the first quarter were 49.2 million units shipped. That’s almost two and a half times more than in the same period a year earlier.

know with Microsoft Surface tablets are not really foothold get, according to IDC. The company shipped 900 thousand copies of the Surface and Surface Pro RT. The Pro was only from February on sale in the U.S. in Canada. In the Netherlands, the tablet is with a full version of Windows 8 from the end of May in stores.

Sales of Surface fall according to IDC by the large size of 10.6 inches. Smaller tablets are more popular, partly because of the lower price. The Wall Street Journal reported last month that Microsoft is working on a 7-inch version of the Surface.
