ASUS Transformer Book T100 Review - Tablet Guide

ASUS Transformer Book T100 is a tablet to watch. That’s what I thought when I saw come by. At the press conference of this ASUS tablet Some cases of this hybrid tablet spoke to me, and probably many others, to. For example, the hybrid nature of the tablet (tablet plus separate keyboard), the presence of Windows 8 with Office license, the new Intel Atom processor (our first test!) And thereby unexpectedly interesting price tag. What can we expect from the ASUS Transformer Book T100? Is it a good buy if you’re looking for a Windows 8 tablet hybrid? Or are there better alternatives? You read it in the Transformer Book T100 review.

This review was conducted with the tablet Transformer Book T100T with 32 GB of storage with keyboard dock.

Housing & Design

The construction of the ASUS Transformer Book T100 is somewhat disappointing. Not because the housing is not robust or not functioning, that is certainly the case. It looks and all of them does not feel as top in comparison with the other Transformer-like hybrids ASUS is able to produce.

The plastic casing of the Transformer Book T100 tablet is made of smooth plastic. The surface reflects light and fingerprints can be identified quickly. It is also the case that pressing with your fingers, which I do not feel so good to find.

Furthermore

operates the housing does fine. The tablet is good to hold and not too heavy, weighing about 570 grams according to our scales. The ASUS T100 Windows 8 tablet is thin with a thickness of just over an inch. And that makes the tablet portion of this ASUS tablet hybrid log what feels, despite its low weight.

Keyboard (hybrid tablet)

About the keyboard, we can be brief. ASUS knows how to keep a good keyboard where all the keys to find that you need. Standard high back It’s all a bit tighter than you’re used to a normal keyboard because of the small screen size. The keys are over a width of about 26 inches. Typing is fine if you have some skill, but I can imagine that you would prefer a larger keyboard for typing large amounts of text. For example, I switched over too soon while typing this review on ASUS Transformer Book T100 to my computer with full-size keyboard.

The touchpad supports multitouch, useful for navigating the Windows 8 touch environment or scrolling through websites (with two fingers). The touchpad is also something smaller but that does not. What is sometimes difficult, the “mouse” incorporated into the touchpad without having to feel where they are. You can click through on the touchpad button. Below left (left mouse button) and right (right) It feels like a mouse, but sometimes you need to watch your head where you want to click.

mechanism for the tablet to the keyboard to pair identical but from the action that you should perform is different from many previous Transformer tablet from ASUS. Instead of a sliding mechanism, use is made of a push-button. Although the act is more flexible to implement it does not feel solid. It remains in a sense, the operation went well each time.

Incidentally, you can also touch the screen for the most clicks (short: left click, long: right click)

.

Display

On the screen we will not devote many words. The resolution (1366 x 768) is not the highest, but we do not expect on a Windows 8 tablet in the budget category. The pixel density of 155 pixels per inch, what is sometimes striking, for example, the sharpness of lowercase letters in Office or on a web page. I can live with this low pixel density because of the price and because the display is not disturbing grainy.

The color reproduction is fine to mention that I have to say that the viewing angles are excellent. Unfortunately, the screen of the Transformer Book T100 reflects little more than I’m used to.

screen, we can qualify as fine, not thick enough, but certainly not enough

Noise

The sound qualities of the ASUS Transformer T100 are not great. Again we do with a small enough. Tablet Speakers are never the best noise makers but it could certainly have done a better grade. The speaker position at the rear is not well chosen, especially the bass vibrate rather quickly in the plastic housing which is uncomfortable.

Performance

Balance , this word we read often in this ASUS Transformer Book T100 review. Why? Because we think Intel finally a perfect balance has managed to strike a balance between performance and power consumption on Windows tablets, hybrids and convertibles.

must first be stated that the quad-core Intel ATOMA Z3740 processor (from the Bay Trail series) the fastest Atom SoC that we can review it until now. The four cores, each with a clock speed of 1.33 GHz, perform extremely well. This follows from the knowledge gained from practical experience and  from theoretical performance tests.

In practice, the ASUS Transformer Book T100 seems to work. really fast Sometimes you think, even with an Intel Core chip to be related, while that really is not the case! Windows 8 starts quickly (start up and work is easily within 10 seconds) and heavier applications and games in the desktop environment quickly open and operate smoothly. It is even possible to play on the tablet, such Call of Duty . PC games The frame rate will decrease somewhat, but that will not be prevented.

exerted performance tests confirm our experience with the ASUS T100.

Battery

With this extremely impressive performance this ASUS tablet will soon be going through his power. At least, that you think … because it is not so!

One of the disadvantages of the Windows ecosystem is for your sense mandatory , choose between performance and battery life on the one hand and flexibility on the other. This choice now seems to have stalled. (Finally) the balance for tablet computers seems to have found the Wintel combination . Tribute

ASUS Transformer Book T100 Review (16)

It surprised me that the ASUS Transformer Book T100, during daily activities and making this review, after a full day still is. And with enough oomph to even an hour or two to go. A battery life of 10 hours is insane! The standby time is impressive.

ASUS has no extra battery embedded in the keyboard of the Transformer Book T100. And that is quite striking to mention, as we have come across this in many other hybrid tablets / laptops. Especially in a system with Windows 8 is such an extra battery handy anyway and the space in the keyboard dock is available. The score (a 9) had a big 10 can be, ASUS had thought of this.

Connectivity

The connection options are endless. Striking example is the addition of a microSD slot (SDXC) for all microSD cards up to 64GB. The microHDMI port in the tablet is useful and works well. Remember to buy if you want to use them. An adapter cable Furthermore, you have access to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, a microUSB port in the tablet plus one USB 3.0 port on the tablet. The WiFi range is not as high as you’d expect from a laptop but adequate if you do not have a home range problems with a smartphone. GPS is not present.

UPDATE: beware, if you use the microHDMI port (with adapter), you can not use the adjacent microUSB port

Software & user

Windows 8 ecosystem continues to mature. Especially the touch interface is becoming more popular and Dutch apps in the range which makes the usability of this interface more interesting. Still, you will often use the desktop interface when the keyboard is connected to the ASUS Transformer Book T100.

Alas switching between the desktop and touch interface, even for experienced users, a thorny issue. Often you remain stuck in the most convenient for you interface and eventually ending often in the desktop mode.

useful is the presence of Microsoft Office 2013 Home & Student, which gives you a basic version of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote in the desktop environment.

of the 32 GB of storage are in practice only 13 gigabytes on net. Handy is currently the microSD slot.

Positives and negatives

+ Good screen
+ + Excellent performance
Enormous good battery life (up to 9, even 10 hours)
+ Microsoft Office 2013 H & S license
+ Good price for money

– Little storage space
– Plastic enclosure does not look stylish
– Poor to average sound quality
– Not so convenient touch pad (mouse clicks)

Conclusion

Buy your ASUS Transformer Book T100 you get a lot of value for money. For 350 euros (MSRP) you get a decent hybrid tablet or small laptop of choice, including Office license.

The pros are all important issues, while the negatives are less important or overlooked for a large target group.

You’ll ASUS Transformer Book T100 probably more used as a small laptop or netbook than tablet PCs. The disconnect is especially useful if you want to make the loose screen, for example when watching a video, fast browsing and Facebooking / Twittering on the couch or show a presentation to a third party.

just use

balance between performance and battery life is sublime. Not only the lightweight user, but also a large group of medium to heavy users will surely be satisfied with the performance of the ASUS T100. Especially in combination with the extremely interesting battery life.

Are you looking for a small Windows 8 laptop that can also serve as a tablet for a low price, service, then you are well on the ASUS Transformer Book T100. Possibly buy a small Bluetooth mouse with it for a complete whole
