SAN FRANCISCO – The iPad 5 is probably thinner than previous versions, thanks to the use of more efficient LED backlight. The tablet will in size and weight similar to the iPad 2.

” The thinner and lighter design is partly due to the reduction of the size of the LED backlight, partly to the efficient display and partly to the use of more efficient LED lights,” said an analyst at NPD DisplaySearch by CNET.

The analyst provides even more changes:” We think it is quite possible that a transition is made to a film-based touch sensor”.

The new 9.7-inch iPad 5 appears likely in the third quarter of this year, said the analyst.
