The iPad
On 27 January 2010, Steve Jobs, the now deceased boss of Apple, the first iPad to the assembled audience to see. It was called a tablet computer. There already existed like tablet computers called PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) or palmtop. But these were intended for use in business and had limited options and a few programs.
The iPad was something new: a hand-portable computer for the ordinary consumer. And by the presence of an operating system iOS, the number of functions are not limited to keeping a diary and word processing as a PDA. Just like on a PC or laptop was running all kinds of programs (called apps) possible. From word processing to playing games, taking pictures to Facebook tracking.

Apple gave two models later taken off the market. Not because they were not working well but to compete with newly released models to avoid. This ‘disappeared’ models are often still from the remaining lot or on eBay.

The following iPads in recent years released:
iPad (popularly iPad 1) – the first iPad in 2010. With its 13.4 mm the thickest of all iPads. A screen resolution of 1024 x 768 and a screen size of 9.7 inches (about 25 cm). Striking was the lack of cameras on the tablet. No longer officially available.
iPad 2 (colloquially: iPad 2) – the successor to the iPad: from 2011. A great leap forward by its speed, thickness of only 8.8 mm and cameras on the front and rear (respectively 0.3 and 0.7 megapixels).
iPad third generation (colloquially: iPad 3) – came about a year after the iPad 2. Main improvements: a screen resolution of 2048 x 1536 (retina display), which is faster and a new 5 megapixel camera on the back for making good quality pictures and videos. No longer available.
Fourth generation iPad (colloquially: iPad 4) – after about half a year the successor to the iPad 3. Improvements: new and faster processor and a 1.2 megapixel front camera. The narrow lightning connector for contact with other devices in place of the old wide connector.
iPad Mini (colloquially: iPad mini) – released on the same day as the iPad 4. Smaller version of the iPad with a screen size of 7.9 inches (about 20 cm) and a resolution of 1024 x 768. Same cameras as its big brother, but the processor of the iPad 2.
available iPads are all available with a memory of 16 gigabytes (GB), 32 GB and 64 GB. You pay for each doubling 100 euros more. For simple use-surfing, mails, simple games, music games, is 16GB enough. But if you want an iPad for playing different games or do you want a lot of pictures and record videos, then 32 or 64 GB recommended. The iPad is because, unlike other tablets, do not expand a single memory card.
retina screen of the iPad 4 is a special part. The resolution is so high that no individual pixels (picture elements) more visible. This ensures a very high quality image.

Since you usually only pay 100 euros more for an iPad 4 relative to an iPad 2 with the same memory size, the iPad 4 is preferred. Performance is better on all fronts. The iPad mini is especially recommended for people who have a smartphone too small and too large an ordinary iPad. Especially useful when traveling.
